After the tragic death of her parents in 1913, Emmie had no hopes of affording the rest of nursing school and quickly found herself on the streets. She soon put her nimble fingers to work in more lucrative ways, as a pick pocket and natural thief. As her skills grew, she began posing as a nurse to enter the houses of the elderly. She not only cured them of their ailments, but also relieved them of valuable jewelry (as a form of payment, of course!).
As her appetite grew, she set her sights on the notorious Dragonfly Armory for some larger, pricier objects — their weapons. Hopefully in one hit, she’d be able to retire for good. She was caught in the task, but admired for her skills by the squad. Eventually it was determined she could join the squad with the call name Magpie, to serve as a reminder for her penchant of relieving people of their “shiny” objects.
Now a long standing member of the group, she serves as master of intelligence gathering and espionage, as well as the group nurse in case of emergency. What better way to infiltrate enemy lines than by sending in a cute nurse?
In real life — “Magpie” is Emmie Rose. She joined the squad in 2010 in prep for the 2011 Dragon*Con. She’s not a real nurse, just plays one on TV. She can often be found humming the tune: “One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret, Never to be told.”
